Different Ways Using Which Software Make Money ?

When a software is developed there is question that arises in the mind of the developer that how that software can be used to drive revenue. Any commercial software uses different methods or strategies to make money.

Anyone who is willing to earn money from a software needs to have a good software monetization strategy so that a good profit can be made out of the software.

Here we are listing some of the ways using which a software can make money.

1. Software Licensing

Software licensing is method using which a software developer can make money. If you are a software developer and you made a software then you will want to make money out of it. For this you need to find a situation or business in which software is needed.

Create a software for that need and point out the customers and charge them a regular fees for using that software. You can license you software for a limited period and charge them.

By charging them you may need to provide them with a maintenanace service free or paid.

2. Subscription based Model

This is another model to make money out of software. Most of the websites and tutorials channels use this model to make money. One of the example is Youtube. Amazon prime is also one of the service.

In this model you can create a service and provide a subscription based access for that service. For example Amazon provides number of services to its Prime customers. Prime customers can have is early access to sales, prime videos etc.

In case of Youtube, you can enjoy a ad-free environment in youtube when you have subscribed for youtube premium.

3. Freemium model

This revenue model is used by most of the games and services online. In this type of model the creator will provide a free service to the user and earn money in another ways.

There can be ads in that service or software so that the creator can earn a revenue from ads. The creator can use information entered by the user and sell this information to other advertisers to earn money.

4. Open-Source Model

Open-source model is the model is the model in which the code of the software readily available on the web and multiple people can contribute to that code. Here arises a question that how will these software earn money ?

Open source software can also earn money in different ways like charging for add-on, consultancy, services etc.

5. Partnership or Sponsorship

Partnership and sponsorship is also one of the ways through which a software can earn money. The software developer can partner with another business to feature their services into the software and charge some money to the other business.

For example. Suppose there is a payments app like paytm and if it features a food delivery services like Zomato in their app then it will increase the chance of using Zomato to order food through it. And for this paytm will charge a fee to Zomato.

6. Premium Model

Premium model is same as the prime model in amazon prime. Here a software service provider will charge a fee to give access to the special features in the software.

For example. If you use canva.com for making designs and arts then you may have noticed that canva provides a premium fee for accessing  premium stickers and elements in the design. This is one of the example of premium model.

7. Software as a Product Model

In this model the software is itself a product and the creator sells the software to the customer only once. For example you can assume windows operating system as a product. This is a software product that the windows company sells to you and charges a fee for it.

8. In-app advertising

It is similar to the freemium business model in this model the advertise is shown to the customer or the user of the software so that a small revenue can be generated.

In this business model the revenue generated is very small as compared to the subscription or any other model.

This model demands mass audience and the revenue generated depends majorly  on the type of ads and the ad-targeting.

10. In-app purchases

In this revenue model there are certain features in the app or software that demands a special purchase.

For example in a gaming app, there are certain features that the user can buy. Suppose user is playing a shooting game then he can buy different guns, skin etc. to change the gaming experience for which he will need to pay to the user.
